Man had his wife and children kidnapped for two years

On March 22, in front of the Fifth Criminal Judge of Buenaventura, the Prosecutor’s Office charged a man as alleged perpetrator of the crimes of simple aggravated kidnapping in heterogeneous competition with aggravated domestic violence.According to the investigating body, the judge endorsed the charge and ordered against the subject an insurance measure in a prison establishment. The investigation states that two years ago, the accused took his former partner to live in a wooden house (located on the road to Sabaleta, sector of the Devil’s Curve) with his 2 and a half year old children.Inside the home, the man reportedly beat, threatened with death and insulted the victim, who would also be forbidden to leave the building and always left her locked up with the two minors. The Prosecutor’s Office found that the man only took the woman out each month to take her to the bank where he claimed the Families in Action subsidy, took her money and only brought her food twice a week. After two years of this situation, the woman had help from a neighbor who contacted a family member. He informed the authorities about what was happening inside the house, who came to rescue the woman. On March 17, servers of the CTI and units of the Gaula Militar arrived there, checking the conditions of confinement and poverty in which he lived with his two children, rescuing them and taking them to a hospital where they were treated. She had a fractured hand, apparently due to physical abuse by her former partner. The man was captured by servers of the Technical Investigation Corps and agents of the Gaula, complying with an order issued by a criminal judge with control of guarantees. During the concentrated hearings, the man did not enter the charges charged by the investigating body.Domestic violence and gender-based violence have been increasing since the arrival of the pandemic and after two years, the numbers are increasing instead of decreasing, thus showing the authorities an alert to turn on prevention and care protocols. According to the figures presented by Medicinal Legal so far in 2022, there were 2,144 cases of women assaulted by their partners, 6 cases of femicide and five more women killed in events classified by the institute as intimate partner violence. The above figure shows that this type of violence has been constant, since in 2021 the entity shared that, during January and October 2021, 98,545 women were victims of some type of violence, of which 797 were homicides, which increased compared to 2020, in total there were 88 more cases than in the previous period . 97,354 women were assessed for injury or assault, 16,402 for interpersonal violence, 15,644 for alleged sexual offence, 8,534 for domestic violence and 23,679 for intimate partner violence and 394 cases of suicide were reported. Let us remember that Colombia’s figures are not far from the problems at the international level, in 2021 UN Women noted that worldwide, one in three women has suffered physical or sexual violence, mainly by a romantic partner and every day, 137 women are killed by members of their own family.According to El Tiempo, women who are victims not only ask that violence be prevented and that it stop, but that justice acts in cases that are under investigation or that have gone unpunished. Well, there are cases such as that of Ángela Ferro where despite complaints and evidence against her ex-partner, Miguel Parra, for attempted murder after assaulting her with an axe and causing her more than 7 injuries in the presence of a minor, he was released after a year in prison and no compensation was given to the victim, in addition, the subject counterclaim for tampering with evidence. On the other hand, it must be remembered that minors are also exposed to this type of violence. The Office of the Ombudsman reported that during 2021, officials of the entity dealt with 30,000 cases of violence against minors in the national territory, which is why it called for ensuring protective environments for children and adolescents against the recent cases of violence that occur in the country. This was announced by the ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, who explained that of the cases received during the previous year, 34.1% corresponded to sexual acts against children under 14 years of age; 23.7% due to carnal access with children under 14 years of age; and 16.1% of cases were linked to non-food assistance. “The recent cases of abuse, mistreatment and bullying of children in San Bernardo del Viento, Bogotá, Soacha, Cali, Tulua and Cucuta move and hurt us. They also lead us to a reflection on co-responsibility in the care of children, that indissoluble protection that the State, society and, of course, the family must provide, in order to guarantee their integral development. In it, the State must create conditions and environments in which the family can be protective,” said the official.KEEP READING:Liberal Party breaks dialogues with the Historical PactFrancia Márquez, vice-presidential formula of Gustavo Petro
